Ingrid Buehler

Publisher

Ingrid Buehler, along with husband Randy, has owned the Polk County News since they moved from Southern Maryland in 1983. She taught eighth grade English for five years before leaving to begin raising their two children -- Randy Jr. and Cheryl. Her return to work marked the beginning of an ongoing passion for community journalism. She began as a community correspondent and ended up as editor for a twice-weekly newspaper before the Buehlers decided to strike out on their own. They purchased the Polk County News as it was celebrating its 100th birthday, later incorporating the (Copperhill) Citizen-Advance to give Polk County its first countywide newspaper.

With a small staff, everybody does a little bit of everything. Ingrid’s primary responsibilities are reporting and advertising sales. She has won writing awards from the Maryland-Delware-DC Press Association and the Tennessee Press Association.

Ingrid was born in Washington, D.C., but had no trouble adjusting to life in Polk County, where she has developed a passion for wildflowers and local history. The Buehlers currently live on Towee Mountain, where distractions come in the form of turkeys walking down the driveway and deer eating the azaleas instead of traffic sounds and glaring lights.

“I have a strong belief in the importance of information and Democracy. I’d like to think we’re playing a role in the Polk County community.”
