Copper Basin Medical Center announces this month’s topics for Community Wellness. Sonya Standridge, Chief Nursing Officer, explained that the sessions are used to raise awareness about important health issues. In February of this year, the Medical Center offered free and reduced priced blood work for over a 125 people, and plans to help the community in any way it can. The Medical Center started the program last October, which covers a different topic each month. So far, topics have included everything from heart health to breast cancer awareness.
On June 5th, there will be a Coupon Workshop to encourage people to shop healthier. Standridge says the workshop will focus on teaching community members how to shop smarter, using coupons to purchase more affordable and healthy food options.
The Medical Center will also hold a Diabetes Education Class at Pat’s Kountry Kitchen on June 12th. Free meals will be offered to all those who attend. Both caregivers and diabetics are welcome to come and join this event. The event is co-sponsored by McCaysville Drug Center.
On June 19th there will be a First Aid Class to teach parents how to deal with minor injuries that may not necessarily require emergency attention.
Most events are held at the Copper Basin Medical Center or at area businesses. Dates and times of events are located in the bulletin board section of this week’s paper.
