Polk students rack up more honors
Polk County High School had 16 students competing, and 12 placed in the top 5 in the state.
Thousands of students from across Tennessee gathered at the Chattanooga Convention center last week to compete in the 70th Annual Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference. Polk County High School had 16 students competing, and 12 placed in the top 5 in the state.
In Web Design, Derek Roberts, Brandon Cummings and Trace Kerns took 1st in the state. This is the sixth consecutive year that Polk County High School has claimed that title. In E-Business Polk had two teams competing and took both 1st and 2nd in the state. The 1st place team consisted of Austin Locke, Noah Blankenship and Anthony Foley. The students on the 2nd place team were Dalton Thomas, Dakota Thompson and Kym Matthews.
The 1st and 2nd place students will have the opportunity to represent Polk County and the State of Tennessee at the National Future Business Leaders of America Conference in Austin, TX in June. According to teacher Dewey Esquinance, “Polk County students have always done exceptionally well at the national conference. They have placed in the top 10 in the Nation for the past 5 years, including 2 national championships. We hope that we can send all of the 10 that qualified, but that is a big expense.”
The theme of this year’s National Conference is “Gateway to Greatness”. FBLA members have the competitive edge, as the best and brightest of FBLA convene to compete in leadership events, share their successes, and learn new ideas about shaping their career future through workshops and exhibits. This four-day conference is considered the pinnacle of the FBLA experience, especially for those running for national office. FBLA has forged partnerships with industry leaders to underwrite competitive events and scholarships for students achieving national ranking.
If any business or individual is willing to help sponsor a Polk student with expenses to represent Polk at the nationals in Austin, TX,, they are encouraged to contact the school at 423-338-4514.
