GOSPEL CONCERT Herman and Sonnie Harp will present a gospel concert at the Benton Seventh-day Adventist Church, 145 Lifestyle Way, Benton, on Saturday night, April 28, at 7:00pm. Everyone is welcome. PETERSBURG CHOIR CONCERT Lyra will present a concert at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Blue Ridge, on Saturday, April 28, at 7 pm. The first half of the concert will feature sacred music of the Russian Orthodox Church, The second half will feature Russian folk songs. In between selections, Sergey Turpitsyn, the choir’s director, will give a lively description of each piece and discuss Russian customs and music. St. Luke’s is located at 7 Ewing St., across from the Blue Ridge Kiwanis Club Fairgrounds and Community Center. For more information, call (706) 632-8245. CRYSTAL ELAM AND JIM PICKETTS IN CONCERT at Georgetown Baptist Church, Sunday, April 29, at 6 pm. FIRST TUESDAY U.S.A RETURNS Tuesday, May 1, from 7-9 pm. Kick off the night festivites with a stage dedication in honor of Dr. William R. Lee, then music will begin featuring former 1st Tuesday performers. All former musicians are urged to participate, anyone interested in playing please contact Doug Collins at 423-457-5960. Concessions provided by the Copper Basin High School Band. Everyone please come out and enjoy the fellowship. The Monroe County Historical meeting will be held Thursday, May 3, 7 p.m. at Ft. Loudoun State Historic Area Visitor Center. The speaker will be local writer, humorist, and historian Larry Smothers. He will speak on the subject of "Cemeteries & Burial Customs in East Tennessee.” The meetings are open to the public. BAKE SALE AT LOTTIE’S DINER to help pay medical costs and financial expenses for Penny and Paul Chambers on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Lottie’s. POLK COUNTY DEMOCRATIC WOMEN will meet Tuesday, May 8, at 6:30 pm in the 3rd floor courtroom in the Benton Courthouse. The Overhill Shutterbugs, a regional photography club, present their 2nd Annual Photography Exhibit from April 17 through June 1, 2012 at the Etowah Arts Commission, next door to the Gem Theater in downtown Etowah. A public reception will be held on Friday, April 20 from 5-7pm. The 2nd Annual Overhill Shutterbug Photography Exhibit will be on display from April 17 though June 1 at the Etowah Arts Commission in downtown Etowah, located next door to the historic Gem Theater at 700 TN Avenue. The Miss Sunshine Pageant will be held Saturday May 5th at the Benton Elementary School Auditorium beginning at 10 am. All girls ages 0-18 years old are encouraged to participate. We provide all food and veterinary care including spaying and neutering. Our existing foster families are overwhelmed with the number of dogs in our possession.
