Two members of the local Republican Party challenged the results of a recent election of officers, alleging that the annual re-organizational meeting was not advertised and requesting another meeting be held that would include all members of the Republican Party.

The
City of Benton has released their audit findings for the 2010-2011 fiscal year.
During the March commission meeting, Richard Hill with Mitchell, Emert &
Hill, PC told Benton Mayor Jerry Stephens and City Commissioners Gene Pack and
Joe Jenkins they had a “clean” audit.
According
to Hill, the City of Benton stayed within their budget for the most part and
the water department was able to make a small net profit. Profit for water
departments is mandatory in the state of Tennessee and if a utility loses money
for two consecutive years the state can recommend an increase to water and
sewer rates. Hill also noted that the rate for unaccounted water loss was only
7.29%, well below the state standard of 35%.
Polk County’s road committee met last Tuesday to go over the list of county roads in an attempt to have an updated list that includes all county roads with their proper names as well as the mileage for the roads.
