Coon hunters will be able to enjoy their sport in the Ocoee and Tellico Bear Reserves next year – but only for a month and only with two dogs per truck.
The county commission has voiced opposition to a proposed change in the coon hunting season, which was just approved in the Bear Reserve for this year.
These animals have been removed from big game status to a non-protected nuisance animal marked for eradication.

at McCamy Lake. Anglers 15 years and under are invited to try their luck.
This event, hosted by the USDA Forest Service,
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the Cherokee Chapter of the National
Wild Turkey Federation, will be held at McCamy Lake in the Chilhowee Recreation
Area on May 21 from 7:00 am-11:00 am.From U.S. Highway 64 near the Ocoee Ranger Station turn onto Forest
Service Road 77 – Ocoee Scenic Byway.Continue up Chilhowee Mountain seven miles to the Chilhowee Recreation
Area - follow the signs.
Catchable size trout have been stocked in the lake,
and fishing will be restricted to children 15 years of age and under.A non-fishing parent or guardian must
accompany all kids. No licenses or
permits are required.Prizes will
be given away during the event.
