Girls join Girl Scouts for fun, friendship and belonging. Under the guidance and direction of caring volunteers, girls develop leadership—the thread that is woven through everything a girl experiences in Girl Scouts.

Leadership skills are developed through community service projects where they help others, girl-led programs, hands-on activities, and problem solving.

Working together in an all-girl environment encourages girls to feel powerful, emotionally and physically safe, and to experience a sense of belonging.

According to Linda J. Rath, CEO for the Moccasin Bend Council, “For 96 years, Girl Scouts has helped girls develop the skills they need to meet the challenges of a constantly changing world. Now, more than ever, girls can benefit from the values and mission of Girl Scouts.”

Registration:  Girls ages 5 to 17 are invited to register now for Girl Scouts. A signup will be held at South Polk Elementary in the cafeteria on Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 5:30-6:30.  Girls in middle and high school should contact Emily Wilson at number listed below.

Upcoming council events include “Scout Day at Lake Winnie” where all registered Girl Scouts K-12 receive free gate admission and free unlimited rides on Oct. 5; “Daisy Day at the Zoo” for girls in K-1 and their dads on Sept. 27; “Engineering a Future” for girls in grades 4-8 work with female engineers at UTC; girls in grades 4-5 learn all about archery at “Bullseye” on Nov. 8 at Camp Adahi; girls in grades 2-3 will uncover local history with games, stories and fun at “Heritage Hunters” at the Museum Center at 5ive Points in Cleveland on Nov. 15, and much more. Troop leaders and assistant leaders are needed for all ages (leaders do not have to be parents of girls, all adults are invited). No experience is necessary and training is provided.     

Membership dues are $10 and financial assistance is available.
