Very Special People

Dear Editor,

On Monday, July 21, 2008, I went to the PCHS to enroll our two daughters in the Cheer Camp. However, before I left two of the little girls at my daycare, Angel Wings, had also wanted to attend but couldn’t due to financial circumstances. After I had enrolled my daughters, I asked the women at the sign in table if there was any kind of scholarships available for children without the funds. They indicated that there was no program that they knew of but gave me another number to call to see if they could help.

There was a gentleman behind me who stepped up to the plate and said that he would sponsor one of the girls. I have no idea who this kind gentleman is but God knows. I raced back to the daycare to pick the girls up and bring them and paid the fee for other girl myself. The girls were thrilled beyond words. I was sharing this story with a friend who, then, paid for the second girl to attend.

The joy on the faces of these little girls cannot be put into intelligible words. The cost of the camp was not outrageous and the work that the cheerleaders did with each group of girls was phenomenal. This was a moment that none of the girls will ever forget.

In a world where there is so much corruptness, evil and children being harmed in every facet of life, I would like to take a moment and thank both of these very special people. I believe that God puts Angels on the face of this earth and I would like to thank both of these very special angels for what they gave to these two beautiful girls.

All of us have the ability to provide a helping hand, no matter how big or how small. There are many worthwhile projects around our community that could use a few dollars or maybe an extra prayer or even donating finances or items that are needed. It only takes a few minutes to find out what is needed and then provide it. For instance our daycare is in need of outdoor toys such as Tonka type trucks, Little Tykes vehicles, books for ages six weeks to 12 that are in good order, toys for all these ages…the list goes on. As the two who gave without thinking to these girls, all of us can do the same thing and improve the life of a child in need in our community.

Thank you,
Jerry Belk
Owner of Angel Wings Daycare

Copperhill done a disservice

(This is a copy of a letter send to Copperhill Mayor Herb Hood)
Dear Mayor,

I sent the below email to the Chattanooga TV station that, in conjunction with CNN, aired an "article" on CNN last night with regard to your fine town.

I do hope--without regard to your political persuasion--that you do desire that the people whom you are most obligated to serve would be an informed, intelligent-sounding group.

Copperhill was done a great disservice last night. The "snippet" CNN aired on Copperhill (and their thinking toward Sen. Obama) left the impression that Copperhill residents are one naive, uninformed, "backwoodsie" lot. That was a shame. The blood coursing through my veins came out of Red Boiling Springs, TN & Lafayette, TN soil--so I treasure & value the "small-town" feel & heritage. Therefore, I'd feel horrible that my town was made to look as Copperhill was last night. I am incensed at the light in which your people were cast in the story.

I pray that you would desire to help educate your citizens that they can be informed, educated voters. Voting for McCain is a God-given right, but it would be much wiser to actually be FOR him, than simply against Obama because one thinks he's a Muslim. How sad.

Respectfully,

Brent Hall
