Martha Lurline Beamer, age 94, died Sunday, August 3, 2008 at a Columbus, Ohio hospital of heart failure. Her sons, Carleton Beamer of Obetz, Ohio and Ralph Beamer of Montgomery, Illinois, and her daughters Virginia Sholl of Pickerington, Ohio and Alice Kingery of Benton, survive her. Her family tree extends to include 10 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Her husband Ralph Beamer preceded her in death in August, 1981.
She was a native of Hancock County, Ohio. She was born and raised near Vanlue, Ohio, graduating from Vanlue High School in 1932. She and her husband Ralph graduated from Andrews Barber College of Toledo, Ohio in 1935. She lived all of her married life in Arcadia, Ohio where she was a barber and beautician for more than 38 years. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and Ohio Grange. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters Lodge. When her children were in school, she was active in Boy Scouts as a den mother and Girl Scouts as a troop leader and camp director. She had a “green thumb” and loved gardening. On her recent visit to Benton, TN she purchased a yellow rose bush for a daughter, Alice Kingery, and supervised the planting of it. Other interests included watching football on TV, even calling the games for many of the residents in her retirement community that could not see and hear as well as she could.
Funeral services were held at Gethsemane Methodist Church in Pickerington, Ohio at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 and the Methodist Church in Vanlue, Ohio on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 followed by burial at a country cemetery near Alvada, Ohio.
