REV. GEORGE ANDREW OWENS
Rev. George Andrew Owens, 84, a resident of Benton, and formerly of Greasy Creek, passed away Sunday morning, July 27, 2008 in a local hospital. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Cora Owens, his sister Janie, and his three brothers; Johnny, Eskel, and Frank Owens.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Luwana Rymer Owens, five children and their spouses; Cecilia Murray of Tucson, AZ, Gilbert and Brenda Owens of Chattanooga, TN, Kay and Ron Green and Johnny and Pat Owens all of Cleveland, Becky and Terry Calhoun of Benton. Four sisters; Blanche Rymer, Frances Wright, Etta Bee Goforth, and Marie Cowey, one brother; Jimmy Owens. Twelve grandchildren; Brian Woods of Tucson, AZ, Angie Skinner of Dayton, Mark Woods, Kim Jones, Tonya Malone and Heath Owens all of Cleveland, Andy Owens of Omaha, NE, Jeremy Owens of Chattanooga, Whitney Owens of Spanishford, AL, Shelby Calhoun of Benton and AND Lance Corporal Casey Calhoun deployed with U.S. Marine Corp in Iraq, and Sherrie Owens of Sherie, AL. twelve great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Also a very special friend of the family, Mondella Bates.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Green officiating. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery with Heath Owens, Whitney Owens, Eddie Malone, Dustin Jones, Jeremy Owens, and Mark Bates serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony concluded the service. Higgins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
