The county’s Debt Service fund has received some funds to make up for unbudgeted payments made earlier this year.

According to County Executive Mike Stinnett, Director of Schools James Jones sent a check for $21,258.33 to cover the remaining portion of the third-year payment due from Toby McKenzie for the athletic complex at Polk County High School. In January, the county covered the $45,000 payment on a five-year bank loan that was made when McKenzie pledged $200,000 for the school. McKenzie made a $23,000 partial payment in February and said the remainder would be forthcoming. Jones said he expected McKenzie to cover the amount provided by the school system.

The county is also receiving payments from Copper Basin Medical Center to cover the $60,000 bond payment also made in January. An interest payment had already been received, and Stinnett said he just got a $12,000 payment, with a similar amounts to be provided in April and the remainder in May to cover the payment.
